  • During the period of Louis XIV the French emperor, French East India company was established by colbert, the chief Minister of Louis XIV.
  • The last Europeans entered into India for trade was French.
  • French established its first trading centre at surath in 1668.
  • Later they established trading centres at Machilipatnam, Pandicherry, Chandernagore, Yanam, Mahe and Karaikal Pondicherry was the French head quarter in India.
  • It was founded by Francis Martin. Francis Martin, Lenoir and Duma were French Director Generals in India.
  • In 1742 Dupleix became the French Director General in India he was the founder of French empire in India.
  • French secured a Firmana from Mughal Emperor in 1717. This Firmana granted French certain concessions.
