1 With the objective of developing a long term solution for mitigating the effect of drought, PMKSY has been launched. PMKSY not only focuses on creating irrigation sources but also helps in minimizing the impacts of drought and improving ground water.
2 This scheme is to be implemented in mission mode. 28.5 lakh hectare area will be brought under irrigation for which a sum of Rs. 5717 crore has been earmarked for the year 2016-2017.
3 An area of 4.31 lakh hectares and 4.25 lakh hectares was brought under micro irrigation during 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively. An area of 5.43 lakh hectares has been brought under micro irrigation during 2015-16. For the year 2016-17, a target of 7 lakh hectares has been kept.
4 89 large and medium irrigation projects are pending since 15-20 years long. In the next five years, an amount of Rs. 86,500 cr is required to complete these projects to irrigate an area of 80.6 lakh hectares.
5 This programme has been started with the objective of making irrigation water available to every farmer and every farm.
6 A sum of Rs. 56.2 cr has been allocated and released for the training through the program called as ATMA so as to ascertain better use of water for farmers on regional basis.
