Food Processing Industry

The food processing industry is one of the largest industries in India and ranks fifth in terms of production, consumption and exports. India ranks no 1 in the world in the production of Milk, Ghee, Ginger, Bananas, Guavas, Papayas and Mangoes.
Further, India ranks no 2 in the world in the production of Rice, Wheat and several other vegetables & fruits.Abundantsupply of raw materials, increase in demand for food products and incentives offered by the Government has impacted food processing sector positively.
Annual Growth Rate of Food Processing Industries sector during 2015-16 was 7.00 percent. Food Processing Sector has also emerged as an important segment of the Indian economy in terms of its contribution to GVA, employment and investment. The sector constitutes as much as 8.80 percent of GVA in Manufacturing and adds 8.39 per cent to the GVA of Agriculture sector.
