Sugarcane: It is the most important commercial crop of India. India occupies second place in the world. It is an annual crop and is growing in irrigated areas. This crop needs high temperature and moisture. With temperature of 21° to 26° Celsius and 100-150 cms annual rainfall.
It is grown in most of the states in India. The major sugarcane producing states are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana. India is the second largest producer of sugarcane only after Brazil. It is the main source of sugar, gur (jaggary), khandsari and molasses.
Brazil is in the first place in the production of Sugarcane in the world. India is in the second place in the production of Sugarcane in the world.
