Oil Seeds

Oil Seeds: India is the largest producer of oilseeds in the world. Different oil seeds are grown covering approximately 12 per cent of the total cropped area of the country. The average production of Oilseeds in India from 2005-06 to 2009-10 is 26.92 Million Tonnes.

Groundnut is a kharif crop and accounts for about half of the major oilseeds produced in the country. Andhra Pradesh is the largest producer of groundnut followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra.China country is in the first place in the production of Groundnut in the world. India is in the second place in the production of Groundnut in the world.

Linseed and mustard are rabi crops. Sesamum is a kharif crop in north and rabi crop in south India. Castor seed is grown both as rabi and kharif crop.

Kerala is the largest Coconut producing state in India. Tamil Nadu is the second largest state in producing Coconut.
